3 reasons to be optimistic about next season – Talk Chelsea

As soon as one season finishes in the Premier League, focus quickly turns to the next campaign, as the summer break evaporates rather quickly, especially when there is a major tournament taking place.

Here is a look at why Chelsea fans can be optimistic about a much better campaign for the Blues next season.

Brilliant Finish to Final Third of Season

In what was an excellent end to the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, Chelsea lost just one of their last 15 matches. They were successful in their final five matches, with victories coming over Tottenham, West Ham and Brighton.

The impressive run of form means the Chelsea players selected to feature at the European Championship this summer will do so full of confidence. England top the Euro 2024 odds at 3/1, and two Chelsea players have been called up into Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad.

The Three Lions’ tournament begins against Serbia on the 16th of June. They are 2/5 in the England Euros betting to start their campaign with a victory. Southgate was a frequent visitor to some of Chelsea’s matches in the final third of the season, so he is likely to be taking that into account when naming his starting XI for the tournament opener.

Once Euro 2024 concludes, the new Chelsea manager will be hoping his players can carry their form into the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. If they can get off to a much better start this time, it could set the framework for a positive season.

Realistic Chance of European Trophy

Although the Blues missing out on the Champions League and Europa League was a big disappointment, entry into the Europa Conference League gives Chelsea a great chance of winning a European trophy next season.

In the second edition of the tournament in 2023, West Ham defeated Fiorentina in the final to lift the trophy. This season, Aston Villa advanced through to the semi-finals before losing to Olympiacos.

Chelsea’s last triumph in Europe came in the 2021 Champions League final. A first Europa Conference League success would be a welcomed arrival into the club’s trophy cabinet.

New Manager Will Likely Be Backed

Although they will inherit a strong squad that has already been invested heavily in, it is likely the new Chelsea manager will get the opportunity to bring in their own players this summer. Their first job will be to assess the areas they feel need to be improved.

Losing centre-back Thiago Silva is going to be a big blow, so a centre-back is sure to be high on the shortlist of transfer targets. It is also likely that at least one wide player will come into the club this summer to offer competition for places on the wing.

Chelsea may only be 2 or 3 players away from competing with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool for the title next season. The board is likely to find the funds needed to bring those players in.

The 2024/25 Premier League begins on the 17th of August and Chelsea will learn their opening opponents when the fixtures list is released on the 18th of June.
