5 wide receiver options with DeVante Parker retiring

The Philadelphia Eagles lost one of their main 2024 offensive free agents to retirement on Monday.

Wide receiver DeVante Parker has decided to step away from the NFL after nine seasons after signing with the Eagles in the offseason, per ESPN.

While Parker had only been with the Eagles for about two months, his retirement does give Philadelphia an added need at the receiver position. Parker was expected to play a meaningful role in the offense.

We’ve taken a look at five possible options for the Eagles with Parker’s retirement, as the team does have some options available to it to fill Parker’s roster spot with a proven receiver.

Thomas hasn’t been healthy for a full season in quite some time, but the Eagles might be the perfect landing spot for the once-prolific receiver. In a rotational role, Thomas could potentially thrive as an intermediate and red-zone option. He could be a useful cog in the Philly passing game.

Renfrow hasn’t quite lived up to the electric start to his NFL career, but the Eagles might be the ideal landing spot for him to experience a bounce back. He could work out of the slot while A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith take the outside snaps. A team-friendly one-year deal could work.

Hardman caught a game-winning Super Bowl touchdown just a few months ago and has experience playing on the big stage from his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. That alone might make him a nice fit in Philadelphia, as would his speed and veteran presence.

Erickson is a very solid returner and can factor into the offense, as he did last year with the Los Angeles Chargers (232 yards, one touchdown) with now-Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The familiarity could give Erickson an in for a solid depth role with Philly.

Landry didn’t play in the NFL last season, but he’s as good of a veteran receiver as is available in free agency right now. If the Eagles want to see what he’s got left in the tank, they could do much worse than to at least bring Landry in for a workout and see what he’s got.
