Lane Kiffin’s son, Knox, lands SMU, Arkansas State scholarship offers after camp

Knox Kiffin, the son of Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin, has two new scholarship offers following a recent camp performance in Dallas. The 2028 Palos Verdes (Calif.) quarterback’s first offer came from Division II program Mississippi College earlier this year, but now SMU and Arkansas State have extended offers to the younger Kiffin after he left quite an impression.

Knox Kiffin wrote on Instagram that the Mustangs, now member of the ACC, offered him a scholarship and it came from new quarterbacks coach D’Eriq King, who starred at Houston before ending his career at Miami in 2021.

Knox Kiffin told Inside The Rebels he has no interest in playing for his father in Oxford and would rather face off with him on an opposing team. Knox Kiffin said his father is proud of his development as his recruitment continues to ascend.

“I’m just going to keep working,” Knox Kiffin said, who will be a high school freshman this fall. “I want to learn a lot going into this high school year and get some varsity reps in and just grow into my frame. I’m going to keep working and try to get more offers.”

Mississippi Mojo 7-on-7 coach Cam Floyd, who played collegiately at Mississippi State, said earlier this spring the budding signal-caller has a live arm.

“I tell you what, I’ve been in this circuit for seven-on-seven for a few years. I started out with 12U and now I’m with the 14U, and by far, he probably has the best arm I’ve seen in this circuit,” Floyd said during an interview with Inside The Rebels. “We’ve played teams from Louisiana, Texas, Florida. I’m very, very impressed with his arm strength. Usually, as the offensive coordinator, I have to kind of coach the kids on where to throw the ball. Today, I showed him the play and he dissected it himself. You don’t get that a lot in 14 years old. He’s wise beyond his years. You can tell his dad is a coach.”

His father’s program is a likely preseason top 10 team with arguably the most-talented roster in program history ahead of the 2024 season. How the Rebels handle College Football Playoff and SEC championship aspirations will determine how the campaign unfolds considering the wealth of roster additions to pair with returning stars.

The Rebels have won at least 10 games in two of the last three seasons with less talent than this team has going into 2024. Still, Ole Miss will have to work to get the results this fall, even with a more favorable schedule than last year.

“A couple years ago, we won 10 regular-season games and last year won 11 total games, most in school history. I do think the roster is better than that, but that’s a lot of work to do to be a better team,” Lane Kiffin said.
