Oklahoma Lands TCU Transfer DL Damonic Williams

TCU Starting Defensive Lineman Damonic Williams to Enter Transfer Portal

One of the best defenders in the Big 12 is headed to the SEC in 2024 as TCU transfer defensive lineman Damonic Williams has announced that he will transfer to Oklahoma ahead of next season.

Williams, listed at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds, spent two years as a starter in Fort Worth and was a difference-maker for the Horned Frogs from the start.

A 15-game starter as a true freshman in 2022, Williams anchored the TCU defense with 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks that year, leading to honors such as True Freshman All-American (247Sports), Freshman All-American (College Football News), and Honorable Mention Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Williams is listed as a four-star transfer and the top available defensive lineman in the country, according to On3.

Earlier this week, On3 reported that Texas was the “clear leader” to land Williams, but it was their rivals north of the Red River that ended up as the last ones laughing in this recruitment.

The Sooners outlasted the Longhorns as well as LSU and Missouri in the race to land the standout interior defender and, in doing so, elevated their defensive line to elite status.

With Williams now on board, Oklahoma’s interior defensive line is on par with the best units in the country, at least on paper.

They return Da’Jon Terry, Davon Sears, and Gracen Halton from last season, added Jermayne Lole out of Louisville, and expect highly-touted true freshmen David Stone and Jayden Jackson to be immediate contributors.

Add to that one of the best defensive line coaches in America (Todd Bates) and the Sooners appear ready to change the narrative about “Oklahoma defense” for good, starting in 2024.
