Kelvin Sampson had more good news for Houston Cougars basketball fans on Wednesday, per a report in the Houston Chronicle.
Sampson, the Cougars’ head coach, said that guard Terrance Arceneaux should be cleared between mid- and late-July.
Â
Arceneaux missed all of Big 12 action after he suffered an Achilles injury in a game against Texas A&M in December in a neutral site game in Houston.
In 11 games he averaged 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game.
Once he’s ready to re-join the team, there will be an opportunity to snag more playing time, as last year’s top guard, Jamal Shead, is off to the NBA.
The report also reiterated that forward JoJo Tugler has been cleared from the foot injured that ended his season in February and caused him to miss the team’s NCAA Tournament run.
Tugler, a true freshman, played in 28 games and averaged 16 minutes per game. He averaged 3.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in a back-up role to J’Wan Robers and Ja’Vier Francis.
Shead is the Cougars’ primary loss from a year ago. The projected starting backcourt includes holdovers L.J. Cryer and Emanuel Sharp, along with transfer guard Milos Uzan, who figures to move into the starting lineup to run the offense.
Â
Arceneaux will likely slide into the bench role he occupied a year ago.
The same will go for Tugler, as both Roberts and Francis are back from last season.
The Cougars, in their first season in the Big 12, won the regular-season crown, reached the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament before losing to Iowa State and reached the Sweet 16 before losing to Duke.
