Sinner, Alcaraz Prevail

Tuesday’s action at the Madrid Open in Spain saw world No. 2 Jannik Sinner join world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

First up, Sinner needed three sets to oust Karen Khachanov 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Needing two hours and 10 minutes to advance, Sinner will next face Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the semifinals. Auger-Aliassime dismissed No. 5 seed Casper Ruud later in the day.

Alcaraz, who continues his quest for a third-straight title in Madrid, defeated last year’s finalist Jan Lennard Struff 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(4).

Alcaraz needed nearly three hours to move past his German opponent. The Spaniard will next face No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev.

Swiatek Continues to Roll

On the women’s side, top seed Iga Swiatek continued to march toward the title, dispatching Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Swiatek will next face Madison Keys for a place in the finals. Keys defeated No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur in three sets.

Still to come on Tuesday, Rafael Nadal will face Jiri Lehecka. Nadal needed three hours to overcome Pedro Cachin in the third round on Monday.
