The New York Giants didn’t pick up Daniel Jones’ fifth-year option from his rookie season.

He proved them wrong by having the best year of his career.

There were high expectations about his pairing with Brian Daboll, as he had a somewhat similar build to Josh Allen, so some expected him to have a bit of a breakout.

Jones played his way into a big contract that offseason, but the honeymoon didn’t last long.

The Duke product was fairly erratic the following season, and he also struggled to stay on the field because of injuries.

That, plus Daboll’s body language toward him, made people think that the Giants would consider moving on from him last offseason.

Now, a clip from HBO’s Hard Knocks from within the Giants’ headquarters shows that that was never the case (via Talkin’ Giants).

GM Joe Schoen came to Jones’ defense by stating that no one, not even Patrick Mahomes, could’ve won behind their decimated offensive line, adding that he didn’t have any weapons either.

Schoen literally said that he wasn’t going to give up on Jones, which is why the Giants went after star WR prospect Malik Nabers.

Some reports stated that the Giants were actively looking to trade up to land a quarterback, but Nabers was always their guy.

He could have an immediate impact and make Jones’ life significantly easier.

Then again, they need to protect their quarterback at all costs; otherwise, they’ll be in that very same position again in 2025.
