While the main topic among those invested in conference realignment surrounds the likes of Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, and other members of the ACC, the Late Kick’s Josh Pate threw a new name into the fold.
Pate discussed Kansas breaking ground on some new multi-million dollar projects in Lawrence, which he believes could be a potential sign of what’s to come.
“Everybody’s talking about conference realignment,” Pate said. “Everyone is talking about where Florida State, Clemson, or North Carolina could go. Hey, I wouldn’t just look over Kansas. I wouldn’t just completely overlook what they’re doing in Lawrence. That’s multiple sports, but I’m talking about football. I’m not talking about what they were, but I’m talking about what they are and what they could and probably will be down the road.”
To Pate’s credit, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold has orchestrated one of the best turnarounds in college football history, leading the Jayhawks out of the dark ages and into the light as a legitimate playoff contender.
“You do not inject $400 million, mid-nine figures into your athletics to just stand pat. You don’t do that,” Pate continued. “For everybody talking about conference realignment and looking at the flashy object over here, don’t forget to look over there as well.”
While Kansas could eventually make a change and see what potential fits rest among other Power conferences, with the ACC’s legal issues continuing to grow, conference realignment has a few other teams in the scope ahead of the Jayhawks in terms of the next dominos to fall.
Whether the future remains as a member of the Big 12 or not, what Kansas has done in such a short time is nothing shy of incredible.
