Uruguay vs Colombia: Pre-Match Facts

  • Uruguay and Colombia will meet for the third time in a CONMEBOL Copa America semi-final. The first encounter was in 1975, with La Tricolor advancing to the final after winning the home-and-away series. In 1995, La Celeste triumphed 2-0 and later claimed the title against Brazil.
  • Colombia will compete in the Copa America semi-finals for the seventh time since the current format was established in 1993. The only time they reached the final, they emerged as champions (2001), eliminating Honduras in the semis (2-0) and defeating Mexico in the title match (1-0).
  • Colombia have netted 11 goals in the Copa America 2024, equaling their highest scoring record in a single edition of the tournament, previously achieved in 1975 and 2001. La Tricolor still has two matches left in the current competition to set a new goal-scoring record.
  • Uruguay have conceded just one goal in the Copa America 2024 (against Panama). This is the fewest goals allowed by La Celeste in their first four matches of a Copa America edition since 1959, when they won the title in Ecuador conceding only one goal.
  • Twelve headed goals have been scored in the Copa America 2024. More than half of these were netted by Colombia (4) and Uruguay (3), making them the only teams with three or more such goals so far in the tournament.
  • Colombia are the first team in the 21st century to score four headed goals in a single edition of the Copa America. The last team to surpass that figure was Argentina in 1991, netting six goals this way.
  • James Rodríguez has provided five assists in the Copa America 2024. One more assist will make him the first player to surpass this figure in a single edition since these records began in 2011, breaking the current record he shares with Lionel Messi (5 assists in 2021).
  • This match will feature two of the tournament’s top three players in chances created: James Rodríguez (14) and Nicolás De La Cruz (13). Lionel Messi (13) completes the podium in this category.
  • If José María Giménez plays against Colombia, he will become the sixth Uruguayan player to reach 20 appearances in the Copa America, joining the ranks of Diego Pérez (20), Roberto Porta (20), Schubert Gambetta (21), Fernando Muslera (22) and Ángel Romano (23).
  • Colombia and Uruguay have met four times in single-elimination rounds of the Copa America. Both teams have emerged victorious twice, with the most recent encounter in 2021 when La Tricolor progressed to the semi-finals via penalties.
