Is it too much to ask?

Shane Lowry is a well-known name in the world of golf. He has had many brilliant moments behind him, but many nostalgically recall the moment when the Irishman lifted the trophy five years ago, winning the Open Championship. It remains the only Major on Lowry’s resume.

Despite being close to winning Majors many times as a 37-year-old, slight differences meant that Lowry returned home without a trophy.

Judging by his success five years ago, this tournament suits him well, and Lowry has high ambitions. Ahead of another edition of the Open Championship, Lowry reflected on the words of his compatriot Harrington, who often advises him. Padraig revealed to him that when he was 37, it was also one of his best years in golf. Lowry hopes for the same.

“I remember saying that to Padraig at the start of the year and he said when he was 37 he had one of his bets years so I’m still holding on to that,” -Lowry said, as reported by Irish Golfer.

Building a career as an athlete and as a golfer involves always dreaming of winning trophies, leading the way, and leaving a mark in history. When you see yourself succeeding in these aspirations, your appetite grows. Lowry has realized many times in his career that he has the potential for great things, and his hunger for victories is becoming greater and greater. During the press conference, he was visibly upbeat and smiling, ready to win Majors once again.

“I feel like when you’ve tasted success, you just want it even more. That’s just the way it is. I feel like I wanted so bad to win another one. Just give me one more and I’ll be happy. (Laughing) That’s all I want. It is too much to ask for.”- Lowry continued.

Shane Lowry has had his best season yet on the PGA Tour. He stresses the unpredictable nature of golf, having experienced both highs, like shooting two 62s, and lows, such as an 85. Despite setbacks, he emphasizes the transient nature of success and adversity in the sport.

Reflecting on recent tournaments, he faced challenges but remained competitive, highlighting his satisfaction with his current form and performance this season. Looking ahead, he remains focused on the upcoming opportunities to excel in major championships, aware of their importance following his 2019 Open victory.

Shane Lowry: The Open Championship is the biggest tournament in the world

The Irishman points out that it is imperative in every tournament to reach the very end and win the trophy. However, there are differences in winning some other tournaments and Majors, especially the British Open. As a boy, Lowry heard stories about the claret jug, desiring to lift it. He considers this tournament the biggest in the world.

“You drive in here and you see the claret jug when you are registering and the history with it and the golf course and the magnitude of it is just big, I think it is the biggest tournament in the world and it certainly feels like that when you are here and it feels like that when you are preparing.“- Lowry continued.

Shane Lowry strives to maintain a specific mentality of calmness. However, he acknowledges that this tournament is one of the biggest in the world of golf, and winning it holds a special meaning. Lowry emphasizes his desire to play the best golf he can, admitting that he feels anxious and nervous at times. Nevertheless, he finds that once he steps onto the golf course and reaches the first tee, he believes he’ll be okay and without nerves.

Lowry tries to work on various aspects of his game week by week, with the intention of improving. The Irishman does not want to watch things silently, aware that his competition is training and striving for progress, just like him.

He feels that he has made significant progress with his putting since the Zurich Classic, even though he wasn’t entirely comfortable during that event, despite winning. In the weeks following, he feels he has turned a corner and now feels confident with his putting stroke. Lowry often mentions that his ability to hole putts is crucial for his competitiveness in tournaments, and he remains optimistic about his chances moving forward.

It will be interesting to follow his performance and see what kind of form Lowry is in at the moment. Playing in this tournament is a special feeling. The fact that he already excelled playing the Open five years ago certainly gives him additional confidence. The Irishman wants to win the same trophy again, which is the most important to him.
