Mountain West Undecided About Adding Pac-2 Washington State and Oregon State

While it’s tough to say where the future of college athletics is heading, for Oregon State and Washington State, the future needs to be approached sooner rather than later.

After representatives from the Mountain West Conference agreed to a one-year football scheduling agreement with the final two members of the Pac-12, many are wondering if Washington State and Oregon State will be presented with an invite to join the league in the future.

According to a report from TheAthletic‘s Chris Vannini, the two programs are working toward an agreement to play in the 2025 season, but the two parties have both slowed talks.

“We’ll have to see if everything falls into place or we explore a different path for that second year,” Washington State AD Anne McCoy said. “Or if everything goes forward with the Mountain West.”

While an invite to join the Mountain West would be a major sign of relief for Washington State and Oregon State, MWC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez says she ” does not see a need” to expand membership.

“When I first started, everyone was growing to 14, 16, and I thought maybe that’s where we need to be,” Nevarez said. “I’m not seeing a need now. Certainly, if there’s an opportunity to make us better, I would absolutely chase that down. But I’m feeling pretty good about where we are.”

While the road ahead for the remaining members of the Pac-12 is still rocky at best, OSU and Wazzu’s disappointing ballad continues.
