The Colorado Buffaloes made significant strides in their first season under head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, improving from 1-11 in 2022 to 4-8 in 2023.

While they fell off after a hot 3-0 start, the Buffs showed enough promise for sportsbooks to set their 2024 win total at 5.5 games, with the over juiced at -140.

Here is a look at Colorado’s 2024 college football win total, along with our over/under prediction.

Colorado 2024 Betting Outlook

As Colorado moves to the Big 12, Coach Prime and company will look to take another step forward. Shedeur Sanders returns at quarterback after throwing for over 3,200 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior. Two-way star Travis Hunter, the top recruit in the 2022 class, is also back to anchor the secondary and contribute on offense.

The Buffs have been extremely active in the transfer portal, bringing in key additions on both sides of the ball. Most notably, they’ve added five offensive linemen with starting experience, a direct response to Sheduer Sanders being the most-sacked QB in the nation last year.

Vanderbilt WR Will Sheppard and Cincinnati TE Chamon Metayer provide more weapons in the passing game. Sanders should have no issues slinging the ball around after Colorado finished with a top-20 passing offense in 2023.

Defensively, Colorado is getting bigger and stronger up front with the additions of DL Taurean Carter (Arkansas) and Nikhil Webb-Walker (New Mexico State). However, questions remain as DC Charles Kelly departed for Auburn.

The move to the Big 12 could benefit CU, as Texas and Oklahoma are SEC-bound. The non-conference slate is manageable, with winnable games against NDSU, Nebraska, and Colorado State. If the Buffs can navigate that stretch at 2-1 or better, they’ll just need to find three victories in Big 12 play to hit the over.

Colorado 2024 Win Total Prediction

While Colorado’s roster is undoubtedly deeper and more talented, it’s important to temper expectations in a new league. The Buffs aren’t yet equipped to challenge the Big 12’s upper tier, as evidenced by their 28/1 national title odds at FanDuel.

That being said, we do think the “over” is the play on their win total. With one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, the offensive firepower is clearly there for Colorado to make a run at 6+ wins and a bowl game.

The Buffs don’t need to compete for a Big 12 title or even finish .500 in league play to cash the over. They just need to take care of business against the teams they’re supposed to beat, spring an upset or two, and avoid the kind of prolonged slide that derailed their 2023 season.

We’re buying in on Sanders continuing to elevate the roster, developing depth behind his stars, and getting the offensive line to gel.  This is also a bet on Shaduer Sanders taking another step forward in his development prior to leaving for the NFL.

With the number likely to rise as bettors back Coach Prime, now is the time to invest in Colorado exceeding expectations once again. Just don’t bank on a Big 12 title run quite yet.

  • CU Win Total Prediction: Over 5.5 Wins (-140)
