Colorado AD Rick George Shoots Down ‘Misconceptions’ About Deion Sanders

While Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has made some enemies due to his larger-than-life persona, Colorado AD Rick George stuck up for his guy on Sunday, debunking misconceptions about his head coach.

George complimented Sanders and spoke on his incredible character, all while not shying away from the fact that Sanders has ruffled some feathers among national media outlets.

“I think there’s a misperception about Coach,” George told BuffStampede. “If you know Coach Prime, he’s an incredible individual. He’s driven, he knows what it takes to be successful, he’s hired a great staff.”

Thanks to his semi-unorthodox approach to building a roster, his willingness to appear in the media, and his incredible playing career, Deion Sanders has quickly become the biggest name in college football. While generating headlines can be great for publicity, it also comes with some setbacks.

“We’re not going to make everyone happy, and that’s not our goal,” George continued. “Our goal is to focus on what we have in front of us, tune out all the noise that’s out there, and make this program really great. I think Coach Prime’s going to do that. I think this is going to be a big step in that direction this year. Let the naysayers say what they want to say. We’re not listening to it; we’re just focused on what’s ahead.”

Colorado will have the chance to bounce back from their 4-8 season in a new conference in 2024. The Buffaloes kick off their Big 12 campaign on Thursday, August 29th, against North Dakota State.
