Gareth Southgate to snub Jadon Sancho for England Euro 2024 squad despite revived fortunes at Borussia Dortmund – Man United News And Transfer News

England boss Gareth Southgate is reportedly set to snub Jadon Sancho when he picks his team for this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament.

Sancho has seen his fortunes dramatically change since he returned to Borussia Dortmund on a loan basis from Manchester United in January.

United decided to let the winger temporarily join Dortmund amidst his public spat with Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils boss told reporters in September that Sancho was dropped from the matchday squad that made its way to the Emirates to face Arsenal due to his poor performances in training.

In response, the 24-year-old released a statement on social media accusing the manager of lying and making him a scapegoat.

Efforts were made by club bosses to reconcile the pair but needless to say, those attempts were unsuccessful. Sancho was subsequently banished from the first team and made to train away from the senior squad.

However, he has received a new lease of life in Germany. So far, Sancho has managed three goals and two assists in the 18 appearances he has made for Dortmund across the Bundesliga and Europe.

He played a pivotal role for the Signal Iduna Park outfit in both legs of their Champions League semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain. Dortmund booked their place in the final, where they will face La Liga giants Real Madrid.

However, according to The Daily Star, Sancho has still not done enough to convince Southgate that he deserves to be part of his plans for Euro 2024.

The newspaper states, “Gareth Southgate has no intention of handing Jadon Sancho an England lifeline ahead of the Euros.”

“It’s understood Southgate has no plans to recall Sancho and take him to the finals in Germany this summer. Southgate has a wealth of talent in the wide positions and is not prepared to risk disrupting his long-term planning by handing Sancho a shock recall.”

“The only way Southgate will consider recalling Sancho is if he suffers a raft of injuries in that position.”

Southgate is poised to name his provisional training squad on May 21 before trimming it down to the final 25 on the weekend of June 8/9.

Sancho has not played for England since missing a penalty in the Euro 2020 final against Italy at Wembley. In total, the United star has won 23 international caps and has three goals to his name in that time.
