Reporters have to love Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, as he is always straight to the point and leaves very little open for interpretation.
After Friday night’s 20-12 preseason-opening loss to the Houston Texans, Tomlin was asked about quarterback Russell Wilson’s status for the next preseason game, and he gave a clear answer, as he always does.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor shared that Tomlin was asked if Wilson will be available for the next game against the Buffalo Bills, and Tomlin bluntly replied, “I do.”

Tomlin wasn’t thrilled with his team’s performance in the opener after watching his Steelers commit four fumbles, allow three sacks, throw an interception, miss an extra point, and fail a two-point conversion.
Starting quarterback Justin Fields had a solid debut by completing 5-of-6 passes for 67 yards, but Tomlin voiced his concerns after the game and said that the two fumbles overshadowed a lot of the positives he saw from Fields.
It’s exciting that Russ will make his debut next week given how many quarterbacks league-wide are taking the entire preseason off, and after two bad years with the Denver Broncos, Wilson could use some reps to get on the same page with his new teammates before Week 1.
Many fans were hoping this would turn into a good old-fashioned quarterback competition, but it’s not looking as if things are headed in that direction, especially after Tomlin’s disappointment with Fields’ performance in the first preseason game.
Steelers fans have a lot to look forward to for next week.
