- The New York Yankees host the Cleveland Guardians at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday for a battle between 2 of the top teams in the country.
- The Yankees will turn to Luis Gil while the Guardians will see their 2nd start from Matthew Boyd, who recently worked his way up from rehab assignment with Columbus.

Two of the three best records in the American League face off Tuesday night in the Bronx as the New York Yankees (73-52, 32-27 home) face the Cleveland Guardians (72-52, 34-32 away).Â
The Guardians are looking to bounce back after being swept in their previous series, and the Yankees look to shake off what has been a very average August thus far. A win over the top team in the AL Central would certainly be a good step in that direction.

Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees Prediction
- CLE vs. NYY pick: Yankees ML (-150)
I’ll always roll with the home team in a tight matchup like this, especially when I like Luis Gil on the mound more than Matthew Boyd. The Yankees hold the 2-1 series lead and Cleveland is limping into this series after being swept by the Brewers in Milwaukee.
But let’s be fair here. New York is also coming off a lost series to the Tigers and they’re in the middle of a very ho-hum 8-7 August to this point. I toyed with the idea of picking Guardians +1.5 – it’s objectively the safest bet here – but at the end of the day I trust Gil to get the job done.

The Guardians see the ball better than just about any team in baseball, but I still like Gil to collect 6 Ks tonight. He’s fresh off a bad performance against the White Sox where he allowed 7 hits and recorded just 3 strikeouts. A strong opponent with the crowd at his back tells me he’s in for a bounce back game tonight. Also: Gil has been under this total just once in the past month – against Chicago.
I don’t see this being a strong day for Boyd, who had a great Guardians debut against the Cubs last week. The Yankees, like the Guardians, are among the most strikeouts averse teams in baseball and Boyd’s heavy strikeouts days are behind him.
Why not? Judge hasn’t gone yard in a pair of games and the Yankees return home after a weeklong road trip to Detroit and Chicago. I think he gets to Boyd tonight for No. 45.
