This summer, the biggest story coming out of New York Giants training camp is whether or not Daniel Jones is the answer at quarterback.
It’s well known by now that the club tried to find his potential successor in this year’s NFL draft but failed. Don’t fret, Giant fans, Field Yates of ESPN says they won’t fail next year.
In his latest 2025 mock draft, Yates predicts the Giants will finally turn the page on Jones and make a huge play for a top quarterback.
Yates sees the New England Patriots holding the top pick, and since they selected Drake Maye this year, will be seeking to deal the pick.
Enter the Giants, who offer a package to the Pats that includes their first-rounder which, unfortunately, is No. 6 overall again.
With the top selection in the draft, he Giants choose Georgia quarterback Carson Beck.
Jones has no guaranteed money left on his contract past this season, and if the Giants finish with a record commensurate with the sixth pick, it’s safe to assume they’d be in the quarterback market. Beck — my early QB1 for the class — is a silky-smooth pocket passer with excellent 6-foot-4 size and enough mobility to navigate inside and outside the pocket. He’s coming off a season in which he finished third in the FBS in passing yards (3,941) and fourth in completion percentage (72.4%).
Jones may be playing his final season at quarterback for the Giants regardless of how well he performs this season. His contract is set up for the Giants and him to part ways after 2024.
Another 6-11 season (or worse) will certainly trigger the Giants to go all-in on a quarterback and finally reset the direction of the team.
