With former Big 12 quarterback Robert Griffin III being unexpectedly fired from ESPN, many college football fans worldwide have begun tossing theories on why the move was made.
While the jury is still out on the decision made by ESPN higher-ups, Griffin III joined the Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday to discuss the sudden change.
Griffin discussed the move for five minutes with Rich Eisen and responded to the story with a caption that reads, “It’s okay to talk about it. Real men aren’t afraid to open up and talk through it while knowing it is our families who keep us going. Thank you, Rich Eisen, for sharing your experience and listening to mine. God has a plan, and I’m walking in it.”
“For me to say I was surprised, I had already been assigned a team, Rich,” Griffin said. “I had already been assigned a team in college football and was going to be back with my guys, Mark Jones, and Quin Kessinick, and it hurt me for them. Not because they need me, because they don’t, like that’s the thing about this business, nobody needs anyone, but just because we were so close.”
ESPN announced the firing of Griffin III on August 15th, which came as a bit of a shock to the college football world. While no explanation has been given from either side, RG3 made a cryptic social media one day after his firing with the caption, “Nothing in this world is worth selling your soul for.”
Griffin finished his thoughts by saying, “To answer your question fully because I love you, man, yes, I was surprised.”
