This week marks the first duel Masters 1000 event of the season on clay.

The top players from both the ATP Tour and WTA will look to gain confidence for next month’s French Open.

The Contenders

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev will all be in attendance.

Defending champion Alcaraz has been dealing with an arm injury since the end of the Miami Open.

Nadal has been in Madrid for nearly a week, honing his skills for what looks to be his final season on Tour.

The Mallorcan has been dealing with a multitude of injuries throughout years and with his 38th birthday on the horizon, it’s becoming increasing difficult to compete at the highest level.

That said, Nadal is the undisputed King of Clay and he will remain a force on the surface for as long as he chooses to play.

On the women’s side, top seed Iga Swiatek, Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka,  US Open winner Coco Gauff and former Wimbledon Elena Rybakina will all be featured.

Rybakina recently won the Porsche Grand Prix, defeating Swiatek along the way. The Kazakhstan native thrives in faster conditions like in Madrid.
