When two sporting worlds intersect: Jannik Sinner began his rehabilitation process following his hip problem at J-Medical, a cutting-edge medical center owned by the Italian soccer club Juventus. Jannik started treatment for his hip problem today. To do so, the world number two went to a facility known to fans, especially Juventus fans. The one – as mentioned a few lines above – of J-Medical, where Juventus soccer players usually go. Jannik was in fact photographed upon his arrival at the headquarters of the Italian club
Jannik was the big absentee together with Carlos Alcaraz from the 2024 edition of the Internazionali Bnl d’Italia. In fact, to his great regret, the Italian had to give up the ATP Masters 1000 which would have probably seen him as one of the favourites, by virtue of the splendid moment he was going through. The hip problem suffered between Monte-Carlo and Madrid forced him to stop, taking time to completely rest from training and competitive activity.
“Before the Madrid tournament I was better, but some days I felt the pain more. It was a bit of a strange situation, because against Khachanov it was better again. I knew something was wrong and the next day we made the decision not to play against Auger-Aliassime. I returned to Munich and performed other tests which led me to make this difficult decision, because Rome is a special tournament for me. We must accept what happened. It hurts me and many fans. I am 22 years old and I hope to be able to play for another 15 years in Rome. Some injuries are preventable, others are not. I don’t want to go into details.
We thought it was nothing serious, but the MRI said otherwise. We have everything under control. If I don’t recover 100%, I would be ready to stop: I don’t want to waste years of my career. Body care is very important. We are doing a great job from this point of view. We can learn from these things and move forward. Next year I will have to manage the situation better by deciding, for example, whether to play Monte Carlo or not. I like playing all the tournaments. I don’t see it as a defeat, we can certainly do some things better. What did I learn? I realize that rest is very important, but already last year I worked well from this point of view.
I am quite calm about the choices made. I will definitely go through a period of time without playing. We will have to see from next week onwards how to work, we still have to decide some things. Obviously the preparation for Paris will not be optimal. My team and I will do our utmost to get there in the best conditions. It’s not easy to play Roland Garros without competing in Rome. We cannot answer these questions yet. I will only play Roland Garros if he is 100% fit to compete. We have to evaluate every little doubt, also because we are playing the best of five sets,” said Jannik, during the special press conference organized at the Foro Italico and also attended by the president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation Angelo Binaghi.
It was the president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation Angelo Binaghi who opened the special press conference called at the Foro Italico to allow Jannik Sinner to address his fans directly. Sinner took part in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia due to the hip problem and has also questioned his participation in Roland Garros. The 22-year-old explained that he will not take any unnecessary risks if he is not at 100%, because taking care of his body to give longevity to his career remains the most important thing. Sinner will observe a short period of rest and will evaluate the evolution of the hip injury with his team in the coming weeks.
“Thanks to Jannik for coming here, it honors him. For Sinner it is a difficult moment, his phone call yesterday was a cold stab. I thought the alarm had gone off. I was in a meeting, I saw Jannik’s call and for half an hour I didn’t have the strength to call him back. It was supposed to be his party, but once again the choice was right. Thanks to his top-notch staff, probably the best possible. I repeat what I said in another difficult moment, during the Davis Cup: his goal is medium term.
Continuity is not about winning an important tournament like the Internationals or a Davis Cup round. His choice, however painful, was the right one. Now we need to start again stronger than before,” said Binaghi in the same press conference.
