6 Kings Slam Promo Video: Analysis

Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner star in cinematic tour de force

I hate that I have to begin a fun, tongue-in-cheek piece “breaking down” the really cool 6 Kings Slam promotional video with a disclaimer. But welcome to the world in which we find ourselves. First of all, the 6 Kings Slam video pulls off a masterwork of promotional achievement. It uses creativity, humor and action special effects to publicize an upcoming tennis exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next month. It features top tennis stars and goes all-in showcasing them in new and unique ways.

Secondly, my 14-year-old son, who isn’t totally sold on tennis, absolutely loved it. They’re reaching the youth! This 6 Kings Slam video is good for the sport, period.

All that said, if they can have some fun, so can I. Please appreciate my “analysis” of the video is meant purely to add to the entertainment. And if anyone takes offense, lighten up, Francis. And no, I’m not referring to Frances Tiafoe.

To the analysis…

Alcaraz

Judging by the forehand technique, it looks like the bot that Alcaraz is playing against is, in fact, Novak. You become even more convinced after seeing the backhand slice. Look at the head tilt, folks. Also, knowing Carlitos, he does not hit backhand on that final stroke– he drop shots. Am I correct? Yes I am.

Sinner

Why does Jannik want to destroy a beautiful statue of himself? Is there an underlying message here about Sinner– nay, about us all? At one point, he even seems mildly amused with destroying himself? This is pretty much me every time I eat fast food, chipping away at my insides with a smirk of bemusement.

As Sinner watches his own head explode, I couldn’t help but think of what it must’ve been like when yesterday’s WADA announcement came down. Just when he thought the whole debacle was over– there’s more mess on the floor.

Medvedev

I wonder if Meddy had a choice between a bear or an octopus? And he chose bear? I would’ve liked an undersea motif. Like a maniacal Medvedev octopus against a Nemo-esque submarine.

Also, I was totally on board with this video until Meddy owns the universe by riding the bear and hitting a volley. Meddy? A volley? I’m surprised his people signed off on that.

Rune

Why did Holger’s guys get blown up? That’s just Ruud. ?

But give Rune the Oscar. His acting is on point. What I wouldn’t give for him to show up for a match against Casper wearing that makeup. No warning or explanation. Just Holger in Viking eye-black, ready to play.

Nadal

I vote we take this essence-capturing clay Nadal statue and use it to replace the one currently at RG.

Also– when the tennis ball eclipses the sun, I guarantee there will be loads of discussion on Tennis Twitter of how those changing conditions will impact Rafa. Answer: No effect whatsoever.

Djokovic

As for Novak’s scene— You cannot critique perfection. That he hovers above (a nod to his record), his body position (a nod to his meditation practice).. the leader of some wolves (you know who you are)… That he stops a ball with his mind? Come on– that’s exactly what he does.

Final analysis: This 6 Kings Slam promo video is a cinematic gem. A very expensive gem.
