We already knew that Kyrie Irving was one of the most talented and skilled players in NBA history.

His handles are second to none, his layup package is perhaps the most complete in the game, and he’s got the footwork of a seven-footer trapped in the body of a guard.

Kyrie is a three-level scorer and an elite free-throw shooter, and he’s proven that he can also be a great playmaker when he sets his mind to it.

However, he’s never been known for his defensive prowess.

That’s why Shannon Sharpe tipped his hat to him for the way he’s played defense this postseason.

Talking on his “Nightcap” show, Sharpe pointed out that Kyrie is actually embracing the challenge of defending Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, and he’s done a very good job thus far (via ClutchPoints).

He did the same in the first round versus the Los Angeles Clippers, often locking down James Harden on the defensive end of the floor.

Kyrie has never been much of a defender, either because of a lack of commitment or whatnot, but he’s definitely taken that part of his game up a couple of notches in the postseason.

This is the best version we’ve seen of Kyrie since he left the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it just looks like he’s enjoying himself on the court next to Luka Doncic.

We already knew what this duo was capable of on the offensive end but if they also start playing lockdown defense, the rest of the league is officially in a lot of trouble.
