October 18, 2024 — Friday Statwatch for games played through October 16

Good morning, and welcome back to Friday Statwatch, our look at the scholastic field hockey scene through a statistical prism.

We’re seeing the end of regular seasons for a lot of teams already, and the hunt for goals is much tougher for some players. As we’ve started to notice that, thanks to a generation of well-trained goalkeepers around the country, scoring is down this year, and we may not have the same numbers of 50-goal scorers as we have in the past.

What you see below is a compilation of available field hockey statistics culled through this past Wednesday from sources such as Lancaster Online, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, New Jersey Advance Media, the governing bodies of Kentucky and Michigan, and, of course, the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform. I encourage you to get your fellow teams to enter their information there as well as whichever is your local news site, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

Now, we’re not entirely sure about the completeness or accuracy of this. We know that there will be some gaps, but we’re committed to fixing anything you may see here. If you see an error or omission, please feel free to send an email to us at TopOfTheCircle.com. Include some backup (a website will do), and we can make the change.

Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next week.
