Kyle Pitts is thriving with the Falcons after 3 excellent weeks

Don’t look now, but Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has been one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL this season.

After much was made about his zero-yard game against the New Orleans Saints, Pitts has exploded in the Falcons’ passing attack.

Over the last three games, Pitts has 17 catches for 223 yards, and the Falcons are 2-1 in that stretch as a result. That’s good for third at the position in catches and second in yardage in that three-game span in the league.

Part of Atlanta’s offensive success has been the suffocating ground game led by Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier and the ascendance of wide receiver Drake London as one of the game’s best passing options.

However, Pitts is playing a significant role in helping the Falcons move the ball on opposing defenses. Right now, he is third in the NFL at the position in yardage (328) behind Las Vegas Raiders’ Brock Bowers and San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle.

Pitts is seventh in receptions among tight ends and, for all the past fantasy football angst, sixth in total fantasy points at the position this year.

Even better for the Falcons, Pitts looks like he’s moving as well as he did in his rookie season.

He’s also continuing to show his explosive play ability. Long gains like this against the Carolina Panthers is starting to become a feature in the Falcons’ passing attack.

The only place where Pitts isn’t active is the end zone, as he hasn’t gotten a touchdown since Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Atlanta has lots of red-zone options in the ground and the air, so that’s not necessarily all on Pitts as much as it is how many options the Falcons have on offense.

The biggest thing helping Pitts right now is that he’s developing more of a chemistry with Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. The talented tight end hasn’t played with a quarterback at Cousins’ level since 2021 with Matt Ryan, and it’s no coincidence that is Pitts’ best year as a pro by a mile.

Three great weeks for Pitts may not remove all the doubt that he’s going to live up to this 2021 draft status, but they do show why he’s a valuable part of this Falcons offense and a pretty darn good player in general.

At only 24, Pitts still has lot of daylight in front of him. With a new contract on the horizon, performing well in this new-look Atlanta offense may be what locks him in with the Falcons for years to come.
