Medvedev Ousted at Paris Masters; Boulter Reaches Hong Kong Quarterfinals
Wednesday’s action at the the Rolex Paris Masters featured former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev dropping his opening match of the event, losing in three sets to Alexei Popyrin 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4).
In a match that lasted two hours and 31 minutes, the reigning National Bank Open winner struck five aces, won 70 percent of his first serve points, broke serve on three occasions and hit 32 winners in total.
Capturing his first win against Medvedev in four career meetings, Popyrin will next face Karen Khachanov or Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Other winners on the day included No. 8 seed Grigor Dimitrov and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
Dimitrov, who is still in contention for the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7(9), 6-3, 7-5.
Rinderknech dismissed American Alex Michelsen 7-6(6), 7-6(7).
Other matches that are still to come on Monday will feature No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz, No, 13 seed Holger Rune and American star Ben Shelton.
Thursday’s schedule will highlight 4-time Major winner Carlos Alcaraz.

Hong Kong Tennis Open
British favourite Katie Boulter continued her impressive season on Wednesday in Hong Kong, China, defeating Xiyu Wang 7-6(7), 6-4.
Hitting five aces during the two hour and 15 minute match, Boulter will next face either No. 7 seed Varvara Gracheva or Anastasia Zakharova in the quarterfinals.
Other winners on Wednesday included top seed Diana Shnaider, No. 6 seed Yue Yuan and No. 9 seed Bernarda Pera.
Thursday’s order of play will feature No. 3 seed Leylah Fernandez and former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin.
