Clan edge Nottingham, 4-3 | Pro Hockey News

Two goals from Cole Ully made it a good night’s work as Glasgow Clan secured two league points with a 5-3 win over Nottingham Panthers – but they had to work to get it.

Corey Neilson’s men took their time to find their rhythm, but when they did, they made the most of their chances to claim a third victory in the regular season.

Panthers took advantage of an early powerplay when they moved forward, with Dedrik Henbrant feeding the puck into the centre where Hugo Roy swept in the opening goal.

Clan themselves had an opportunity with the extra man as Tim Doherty sat for a trip, with a couple of chances testing visiting netminder Hunter Vorva.

Devon Sideroff was first when he blasted in from the centre, which was blocked then Rylan Schwartz seconds later trying his luck, with Nottingham’s goalie taking care of it.

The home side were getting more looks on goal as the period went as Steven Seigo fired one in from the blue line.

Up the other end, Otto Nieminen and Reid Stefanson had opportunities but were denied by Clan goalie Landon Bow.

Josh Tetlow set up Nieminen on the left and the Finnish forward sent a well-placed shot into the Clan net almost five minutes after the restart as the Panthers went 2-0 up.

But the home side got a let off when a stray pass from Keaton Jameson released Henbrant through the centre, bearing down on the Clan goal, but his effort struck the post.

Logan Neilson did the same midway through the second period, but Glasgow eventually found the net to pull one back with a quick move.

Liam Finlay’s diagonal pass from the right at the blue line found Tyson McLellan, who immediately teed up Cole Ully with a finish at the back post.

Then it was honours even as Clan levelled shorthanded as Jameson picked out Rylan Schwartz clean through on Vorva and executing a composed finish.

Panthers had to do without Henbrant for a five-minute boarding penalty, but Bow came up big in the final stages of the middle session, denying both Quinn Wichers and Sam Herr who had gilt-edged chances.

Clan got the perfect start to the third as Steven Seigo put Ully through on a breakaway just six seconds after the interval and he delivered with his second of the game.

The men in purple kept building the momentum which paid off as Ully turned provider to set up Mitchell Heard, who obliged by firing it past Vorva from the centre.

Panthers hit back and a well-hit shot from Matt Alfaro left Bow beaten low by his right hand side as they reduced the arrears to one, making it 4-3.

Clan did enough to take the win in the end and complete a terrific fightback, to the delight of the home crowd.
