Cardiff win late in Glasgow

Glasgow Clan blew a two-goal lead in the final 17 minutes of their Elite League game on Friday night at Braehead Arena, going down 5-4 to league leaders Cardiff Devils.

Cole Ully opened the scoring at 16:37 with a wrist shot that may have deflected off Mark Richardson to go high and beat Mac Carruth and put Clan ahead. In a period of plenty of chances at both ends, Mitchell Heard doubled with the side’s advantage with 29 seconds remaining – skating into the slot in space and firing past Carruth.

Cody Donaghey shot through traffic to bring the Devils back to within one at 29:39, but the home side hit back 27 seconds later when Rylan Schwartz tipped Joe Hazeldine’s shot past Carruth at 30:06.

Cardiff turned the game around in under two third-period minutes.

Brett Perlini palled one back at 43:51, followed by Tlyer Busch tying the game 58 seconds later. By 45:29, the Devils broke 2-on-1 where Cole Sanford took the shot and beat Landon Bow five-hole to put the visitors into their first lead of the night.

As the Devils ran into late penalty trouble, Kohen Olichefski was stand-out for the visiting winning faceoffs and coming up with a huge block as Clan pressed. Clan tied the game with a fortunate play while on the powerplay. Schwartz’s throw on net deflected of Richardson and trickled over the goal line with Carruth missing the puck as he tried to swipe it away.

After running into penalty trouble themselves, the Devils then went on a 5-on-3 advantage as Sideroff and Heard were called for separate minors at 55:25. Josh MacDonald fired home 50 seconds later to put the Devils back ahead.

With just over 90 seconds to go, Olischefski cleared a rolling puck off the goal line to ensure the Devils would take two points from Glasgow.
