An interesting new report may have revealed two new reasons why the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers are heading to a divorce this offseason.
There was so much hope surrounding the Jets when they traded for Aaron Rodgers at this time two years ago. They seemed to be a team on the rise and the four-time NFL MVP seemed like the missing piece to a serious title contender. However, his time in New York was a massive disappointment.

He missed all but a few plays in 2023 after rupturing his Achilles in his regular-season debut. Then despite being healthy throughout 2024, the Jets finished with a sad 5-12 record. Their performance this past season led to both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas being fired.
Now, with a new regime running the show for Gang Green, Rodgers’ future seemed unclear following the season. Rumors suggested owner Woody Johnson is no longer a fan. And new head coach Aaron Glenn seemed non-commital about his return during his introductory press conference. Then a report last week claimed the club was set on moving on from him this offseason.
Well, new NFL rumors revealed by The Athletic insider Dianna Russini on Tuesday add extra details on what pushed the two sides to a divorce soon.
New York Jets requested Aaron Rodgers stop doing ‘Pat McAfee Show’ appearances in 2025

“I was told that when they had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about the future would look like, [they said] ‘If you’re gonna be a part of this team, you’re gonna attend all of training camp, you’re not gonna do Pat McAfee interviews anymore,’” Russini revealed on a new edition of the “Scoop City” podcast [h/t Bleacher Report].
If Aaron Rodgers was fully on board with that request, one would imagine the New York Jets would want him to return in 2025. However, with reports they would cut ties coming soon after those talks, it seems very possible the future Hall-of-Famer balked at those demands.
Rodgers has been a limited participant in training camp for the last two years. His weekly appearances on the popular podcast have been a tradition for several years. And has been a source for headline fodder in both Green Bay and New York during that time.
