Frontrunner emerges to replace Kellen Moore as Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator

A frontrunner has emerged to become the Philadelphia Eagles’ new offensive coordinator following Kellen Moore’s departure to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Moore’s single season in Philadelphia was impressive, leading one of the NFL’s top offenses behind Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. Under his guidance, the Eagles finished second in rushing yards (3,048), seventh in total points (463), and eighth in total yards (6,242), successfully reviving an offense that had struggled at the end of the 2023 season.

With Moore heading to New Orleans after the Eagles’ Super Bowl 59 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia must now search for their fifth offensive coordinator in six seasons.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, there is “internal support” for Kevin Patullo, the team’s pass game coordinator and associate head coach, to fill the position. Patullo has served as passing game coordinator since Nick Sirianni became head coach in 2021 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2023.

However, McLane raised several concerns about Patullo’s potential promotion.

“Of question would be what scheme he’d run? The Eagles made a point of switching last year from the one he and Sirianni had employed with the Colts,” McLane posted on X. “Of course, certain parts of that offense remained and returned after the bye this season. Patullo has also never called plays in the NFL. How will he work with QB Jalen Hurts, who could have more sway after winning the Super Bowl?”

Despite Patullo’s internal support, owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman will oversee a full interview process. McLane notes that Sirianni must be particularly careful with this hire, given recent history. When offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon left after Super Bowl 57, their replacements – Brian Johnson and Sean Desai – lasted all of one season. Desai even had his defensive play-calling relegated to Matt Patricia, which only compounded the team’s struggles.

For Hurts, this transition marks yet another change, as he’ll be working with his fifth offensive coordinator since the Eagles drafted him in 2020.
