One big concern surrounds new Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator as Jalen Hurts will now have fifth OC in six seasons

It’s been a revolving door of offensive coordinators for Jalen Hurts since the Philadelphia Eagles drafted him in 2020.

Since Hurts first entered the NFL, he went through four offensive coordinators in his first five seasons.

With Moore now with the Saints, the Eagles hired a new offensive coordinator — Hurts’ fifth in the last six seasons — they hope will bring continuity to the position.

The Eagles announced Wednesday that they have promoted passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator.

Patullo has been part of head coach Nick Sirianni’s staff since 2021, serving as passing game coordinator before adding associate head coach to his title in 2023. The two previously worked together with the Colts from 2018-2020.

“Very important to the success that we’ve had. He wears a lot of different hats. Helps me a lot with different head coaching things,” Sirianni said about Patullo to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane prior to the Eagles’ Super Bowl 59 win. “I can’t tell you that I make a decision without saying to Kevin first, ‘What do you think?’ That’s in everything. That’s in-game, out of game, with scheduling, that’s with offensive stuff, that’s with game-management stuff, I lean on him a lot. ”

Sirianni added: “That continuity is really important because he knows what I’m thinking in certain situations, how you want things to be taught, all of those different things, so he’s been a great resource for me the entire time, our success this year, but really the success we’ve had since we’ve been here. Can’t be great without the greatness of others and that is definitely a fact with Kevin Patullo and I trust him with everything. Got a ton of trust and faith with him. He’s awesome.”

The one concern about Patullo’s promotion is his lack of play-calling experience. However, McLane reports that Patullo has “been involved in the process on game days and has handled the duties before in practice settings.” McLane also noted Patullo’s familiarity with Hurts, having worked closely with the quarterback over the past four seasons.

Patullo, who has served as Sirianni’s right-hand man, was the leading candidate to replace Moore, and the team conducted no extensive outside search.

Under Moore in 2024, the Eagles’ offense ranked eighth in yards per game (367.2), second in rushing yards per game (179.3), and seventh in points per game (27.2).
