New York Giants urged to trade up for QB prospect, but not Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders

While there are several teams in need of a quarterback upgrade this offseason, the New York Giants may be in the toughest spot of all. Moreso, it’s general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll who enter their fourth season at the helm on the hot seat.

Without seeing significant improvement over last season’s 3-14 record, it’s hard to imagine Schoen and/or Daboll would be welcomed back for a fifth season in 2026. This means the Giants must find a more capable quarterback this offseason, and it may not be who anyone expects.

Bleacher Report suggests New York Giants should trade up for Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants have the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in a class that many say only features two quarterbacks worthy of a first-round selection. Plus, the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns need a franchise quarterback, so holding out hope for one of University of Miami’s Cam Ward or University of Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders to be available could be a fruitless effort.

Thus, the Giants could very well turn to the veteran market to find a better solution under center for 2025, but what about finding a QB of the future?

Recently, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested the Giants might have to get aggressive and trade up for their QB of the future. Except, his projection doesn’t have the Giants moving up from No. 3 to get Ward or Sanders, he has them moving up from the second round (pick No. 34) to target Jaxson Dart at the end of the first round.

“The Giants are well-positioned to potentially make a second first-round pick—Joe Schoen could package pick No. 34 and say a 2026 second-rounder to move back into Day 1. If Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss impresses during the pre-draft process, he could also work his way into first-round consideration. The Giants get their quarterback. And one of the best non-quarterbacks in the class. If Dart can sling it in the NFL like he did in Oxford, it would be a true dream draft for the Giants.”

While many project only two quarterbacks to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Dart is the other one who’s most often mentioned in the first-round pick conversation. All it takes is one team to fall in love with a prospect, and this year, that could be the Giants taking aim at Dart.
