The NFL’s 2024 international slate will have a New York flair.
The Giants and Jets will both play overseas during the 2024 season, the NFL announced Wednesday ahead of the full schedule release.
The Jets will battle the Vikings in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Oct. 6 in a matchup pitting Aaron Rodgers against his longtime NFC North foe.
The Giants will play in Germany in their first regular-season game in that country when they face the Panthers at Allianz Arena in Munich, the home of FC Bayern Munich, Germany’s most storied and successful soccer team.
For the Jets, this is their third trip to London and first since 2021 when they played the Falcons there.
This game will be a possible reunion for the Jets and former quarterback Sam Darnold, who signed with the Vikings this offseason.
The Jets drafted Darnold at No. 3 overall in 2018 and then traded him to the Panthers in 2021.
Darnold will be competing with J.J. McCarthy, who the Vikings chose this year in the first round at No. 10 overall, a pick they acquired in a trade with the Jets.
Rodgers knows the Vikings well from his time with the Packers, owning a 17-11-1 record all-time against Minnesota.
Minnesota finished 7-10 this past season.
This is the second Jets’ game that has officially been revealed, with the team’s “Monday Night Football” road opener against the 49ers being announced Tuesday.
For the Giants, they will do something they never before have experienced and this franchise is heading into its 100th season.
In 1994, as part of the American Bowl series, the Giants spent a full week in Berlin — head coach Dan Reeves in Germany that week actually announced that Dave Brown would be the starting quarterback that season — before facing and defeating the San Diego Chargers, 28-20, at historic Olympiastadion.
In March, the Giants were granted international marketing rights in Germany through the NFL’s Global Markets Program. This allows the Giants to activate in the German market through fan engagement, events and digital content.
This game — slated for Week 10 — will certainly help the Giants market themselves in Germany, even though it is a Panthers home game.
The Giants do some of their best work in Europe, going 3-0 in regular-season games played in London.
They were part of the first-ever International Series game back in 2007, when they defeated the Dolphins (it was designated as a Miami home game) 13-10 in the rain at Wembley Stadium.
In 2016, the Giants beat the Rams 17-10 at Twickenham Stadium, the world’s largest rugby venue.
In 2022, the Giants came back to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, 27-22, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That made the Giants 4-1 in Brian Daboll’s first season as the head coach.
The NFL’s first-ever regular season game in Germany came Nov. 13, 2022, when the Buccaneers beat the Seahawks, 21-16, in Munich.
There were two NFL games played in Germany last season, both in Frankfurt.
