Three months in, Washington Commanders coaches finally got to hit the field with the players and start installing the basics of their schemes Tuesday. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury began slowly, his players said after a rainy afternoon workout, but they were optimistic he would help the unit succeed this season.
Kingsbury, who dislikes the “Air Raid” label, said he’s still building his offense. He wants the scheme to maximize rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, to be “Year 1 of the Commanders’ offense and not Year 5 of the Arizona Cardinals’.” But tight end Zach Ertz, who played for Kingsbury in Arizona, acknowledged his coach will probably stick with some core concepts that others have called “Air Raid-adjacent.”
