The Masters is the biggest event in golf, and the Green Jacket is, arguably, the biggest prize in the sport. Players descended on Augusta National this week to try to get some practice in before Thursday’s tee times.
But the weather gods had other ideas as practice on Monday had to be called off because of poor weather in the area.
Fans Get Refunds for Practice Rounds, Scheffler Gets Out with His Mom
Players got out early on Monday, but everyone had to be pulled off the course at Augusta National by lunchtime with rain and the threat of thunderstorms. Fans (called “patrons”, in Masters parlance) will receive refunds for the suspended Masters practice round.
But there was time on Sunday before the poor weather started for defending champion Scottie Scheffler to get out for a practice round with his mother, Diane.
Scheffler loves to play money games at home, so one wonders if he was playing any Masters betting games with his mom around Augusta National. The Texan, of course, is going for his third Masters title in four years after winning in 2022 and 2024. Scheffler will be one of the most common Masters betting predictions this week, along with Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler will also host the Masters Champion’s dinner, where the defending champion gets to put together a menu for past Masters winners, usually on the Tuesday of Masters week.
Will the Weather Affect Augusta National This Weekend?
You can start making your Masters prop bets for this weekend as the weather isn’t supposed to be an issue at Augusta National. There could be a little rain in the Augusta forecast on Thursday overnight, but the rest of the week should be dry.
Wind typically plays a role at Augusta National, and while it won’t be blustery, players will need to get out for practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday.
There was some damage to the course caused by Hurricane Helene last fall, so some trees had to be removed. Players and caddies study the course prodigiously to try to predict how the trees will affect the wind on certain holes. With those trees gone, work is required to foretell the trajectory of their golf ball.
But overall, weather shouldn’t be an issue, which means we’re in line for 72 holes at one of the two or three greatest golf courses in the world!
