Who is the tallest WNBA player right now?
At 6ft 9, Brittney Griner is currently the tallest WNBA player right now. In fact, she’s actually the joint 4th tallest WNBA player of all time alongside Liz Cambage, only surpassed by Margo Dydek (7ft 2), Bernadett Határ (6ft 10), and Han Xu (6ft 10).
As the first overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury, she has since won the 2014 WNBA Championship, become a three-time Olympic gold medallist, and been selected for 10 WNBA All-Star games.
Ranking the top 10 tallest WNBA players of all time
So, we’ve looked at the number one tallest WNBA player ever, but what about the others stars who make the top ten?
7. Kalani Brown
Height: 6ft 7
Position: Center
Years Active: 2019-present
Teams: Los Angeles Sparks, Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings, Phoenix Mercury
Since being selected as the 7th overall pick by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2019 WNBA draft, Brown has gone on to play for four different WNBA teams, and as of February 2025, has been attached to the Phoenix Mercury.
7. Li Yueru
Height: 6ft 7
Position: Center
Years Active: 2019-present
Teams: Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Seattle Storm
Whilst originally selected as the 35th overall pick in the 2019 draft by the Atlanta Dream, Yueru never got a chance to join the Dream. In fact, she didn’t make her first WNBA appearance until 2022, playing for the Chicago Sky.
7. Kamilla Cardoso
Height: 6ft 7
Position: Center
Years Active: 2024-present
Teams: Chicago Sky
Selected 3rd overall in the 2024 draft, Cardoso ended up part of the starting lineup after her first three games and went on to have a strong rookie season – ranking second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (just behind her teammate Angel Reese). Such an impressive performance led to her being named for the WNBA All-Rookie Team.
7. Teaira McCowan
Height: 6ft 7
Position: Center
Years Active: 2019 to present
Teams: Indiana Fever, Dallas Wings
Drafted third overall by the Indiana Fever in 2019, Teaira McCowan immediately hit the ground running in her rookie season; even hitting a buzzer-beating layup to land her team an 81-80 victory over the New York Liberty during her debut game. Perhaps it was no surprise then when she went on to be named in the All-Rookie Team.
6. Maria Stepanova
Height: 6 ft 8
Position: Center
Years Active: 1998 to 2001, 2005
Team: Phoenix Mercury
Russia’s Maria Stepanova had a brief stint in the WNBA, playing for the Phoenix Mercury from 1998 to 2001. She took a few seasons off before rejoining the Mercury in 2005, when she averaged career per-game highs in points (10.8) and blocks (2.5). Stepanova is a three-time winner of both the FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year and Russian Player of the Year awards.
4. Liz Cambage
Height: 6ft 9
Position: Center
Years Active: 2011, 2013, 2018 to 2022
Teams: Tulsa Shock, Dallas Wings, Los Angeles Sparks, Las Vegas Aces
One of the best Australian women’s basketball players of all time, Liz Cambage finally made the transition to the WNBA in 2011. A very controversial star, the outspoken Cambage had no problem expressing her opinions! A four-time WNBA All-Star and the league’s 2018 scoring leader, Cambage was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 draft.
4. Brittney Griner
Height: 6ft 9
Position: Center
Years Active: 2013 to present
Team: Phoenix Mercury, Atlanta Dream
Brittney Griner has been a force in the WNBA since her arrival in 2013, when she was the No. 1 overall pick in the league’s annual draft. With both the NCAA and WNBA championships under her belt and various records to her name, Griner will likely go down as one of the best women’s basketball players of all time.
2. Han Xu
Height: 6ft 10
Position: Center
Years Active: 2019 to 2023
Team: New York Liberty
Drawing comparisons to iconic 7ft 6in, NBA star Yao Ming, Han Xu truly lived up to the hype as a key player on the Chinese national team that won a silver medal at the 2002 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Xu had a phenomenal game against Australia in the semifinals with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
2. Bernadett Hatar
Height: 6ft 10
Position: Center
Years Active: 2021
Team: Indiana Fever
Hungary’s Bernadett Hatar played most of her professional career overseas before joining the Indiana Fever, with whom she saw action in just seven games during a 2021 season cut short due to an injury. Hatar never really got a chance to show her skills in the WNBA, although she remains the second-tallest player in league’s history, trailing only Malgorzata Dydek.
1. Malgorzata “Margo” Dydek
Height: 7ft 2
Position: Center
Years Active: 1998 to 2008
Teams: Utah Starzz/San Antonio Silver Stars, Connecticut Sun, Los Angeles Sparks
Malgorzata Dydek is the only player in WNBA history who stood more than 7 feet tall and appeared in a league game. So, it comes as no surprise that the FIBA Hall of Famer and 1998 WNBA Draft No. 1 overall pick holds the league’s career record of 877 blocked shots. Tragically, Dydek passed away in 2011 at the age of 37.
