Former Auburn wide receiver Ja’ Varrius Johnson committed to the UCF Knights earlier this week, further bolstering an already impressive transfer portal haul.
In his final season of college football, Johnson will reunite with Head Coach Gus Malzahn, whom he played under at Auburn.
Johnson finished with 1,114 receiving yards and eight touchdowns over a four-year career with the Tigers.
He led the core of wide receivers in his last two seasons with the team. In 2022, he finished with a team-high 493 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
In addition, at the end of the 2023 season, Johnson was second on the team in receiving yards with 347 yards, trailing only tight end Rivaldo Fairweather.
After former UCF wide receiver Javon Baker was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, there will be plenty of targets ready for Johnson and the rest of the receiving room under Offensive Coordinator Darin Hinshaw.
Hinshaw will have a bunch of new faces to work with, too, as the Knights have secured transfer commitments from names such as Peny Boone, KJ Jefferson, Jabari Brooks, Myles Montgomery, and Jacoby Jones, all of who are expected to play significant roles in 2024.
Johnson committed to UCF over offers from Michigan State, Arizona, and Texas A&M.
