Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
Kansas at Texas
While Thursday’s game may have had a little more chaos at the end, game two of the Kansas/Texas series was extremely entertaining as well. The game started off a little slow as each team scored a run in the second inning.
Then Kansas would take the lead back later thanks to John Nett’s RBI double.
And once again, Texas found themselves down in the ninth inning. But Jared Thomas came up with a clutch hit to tie the game at two.
Then just like Thursday night, Jalin Flores called game.
With the win, Texas takes the series and will look to complete the sweep on Saturday.
Best Win
Baylor Over UCF
I know that this wasn’t the premier series of the weekend, but I wanted to give Baylor a quick shoutout. After losing 12 straight conference games, the Bears finally broke the streak on Friday night.
While their last game of the season will be on Saturday, they have a chance to not only take the series but also play spoiler. UCF is one of many bubble teams in the Big 12 and a loss to a team like Baylor may completely shatter their dreams of making it to a regional.
Worst Loss
Kansas
The Jayhawks came into the weekend really needing a series win on the road against Texas. With an RPI in the 70’s and a conference record around .500, this series could have given Kansas the boost they needed to potentially make the postseason. Instead, what happened was yet another heartbreaking loss. After Texas walked them off on Thursday night, the Longhorns did it once again on Friday to take the series. If you are a Kansas fan it must have felt like your heart got ripped out of your chest because this was a total confidence killer.
Friday MVP
West Virginia SS JJ Wetherholt
JJ had a monster day as he hit two home runs against TCU. He ended up with four RBIs and played a significant role in West Virginia’s win on Friday.
Pitcher of the Day
West Virginia LHP Derek Clark
Once again, Derek put on a show on the mound. He went eight innings and only gave up two runs against TCU. Every time this man pitches, I feel like he goes at least seven innings. Derek Clark is truly built different.
Best Home Run
Cincinnati CF Josh Hegemann
Josh crushed this grand slam in the eighth inning to help give his team the lead.
