Saturday’s softball matchup between Baylor and No. 13 Lousiana in the Lafayette Regional can be best described as a lot to a little.
The Bears knocked off the nationally-seeded Ragin’ Cajuns 8-0 on Saturday in five innings to advance to 2-0 in the Lafayette Regional.
While the Bears posted eight runs in Saturday’s game, seven of them came in the second inning. The player of the game for the Bears was none other than junior infielder Aliyah Binford, who crushed a grand slam in the second inning, which scored Shaylon Govan, Emily Hott, and Taylor Strain.
Baylor batters went 6-19 on the day with seven RBIs for an average of .316, while Louisiana finished just 2-15 for an average of .125. Sophomore pitcher RyLee Crandall was lights out from the circle, recording her 15th win of the season with three strikeouts in five innings pitched.
With the win, the Bears advance to the Regional Final on Sunday and await the winner of Princeton, Ole Miss, and Louisiana. Should Baylor win Sunday’s game, the team would win the Lafayette Regional and advance to the Super Regionals. If they lose, a second game will be played on Sunday in a single-elimination matchup to advance.
