Steve Lutz and the Oklahoma State Cowboys Basketball team are suffering another setback, with 2024 three-star guard Jeremiah Johnson requesting release from his NLI.
Johnson, a 6-foot-3 guard from Oklahoma City, chose the Cowboys over offers from the likes of LSU, SMU, Saint Louis, TCU, and more.
Coming out of PHHoenix Prep in the Class of 2024, Johnson is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 136th-ranked player. He also checks in as the 12th-ranked player at his position and the eighth-ranked player in the state of Arizona.
Johnson was the lone addition to the Cowboys 2024 recruiting class, but after a head coaching change in Stillwater, the former Cowboys signee will re-open his recruitment.
With Johnson out of the fold at OSU, Steve Lutz will have another scholarship to fill ahead of the 2024-25 season. The team has already added the service of seven players through the transfer portal, including La Salle’s Khalil Brantley, Xavier’s Abou Ousmane, Purdue’s Brandon Newman, UCF’s Marchelus Avery, FIU’s Arturo Dean, Arkansas’ Davonte Davis, and Texas Tech’s Robert Jennings.
With the loss of Johnson, the Cowboys now have three remaining open scholarships. While the transfer portal featured a record number of entries this offseason, Lutz and company still have a long way to finish their roster.
