In a sad turn of events, NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton has died at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Walton had an incredible career on the basketball court and in the booth as he accrued millions of fans across the world thanks to his flashy style of play and unique commentary style.

“Bill then translated his infectious enthusiasm and love for the game to broadcasting, where he delivered insightful and colorful commentary that entertained generations of basketball fans,” Silver continued. “But what I will remember most about him was his zest for life. I treasured our close friendship, envied his boundless energy, and admired the time he took with every person he encountered.”
