Bayern Munich can edge PSG

Let’s start at the Allianz Arena, which hosts the blockbuster tie of Tuesday night when Bayern Munich take on Paris Saint-Germain.

Both of these European giants have underperformed in the competition so far, with Bayern winning two and losing two, while PSG have only managed to collect four points from their opening four games.

But Bayern’s attacking prowess should give them the edge because Harry Kane has rediscovered the sharpness that appeared to elude him when England needed it most at Euro 2024.

Kane bagged another Bundesliga hat-trick on Friday against Augsburg to make it 20 goals in 17 club appearances this season.

PSG have lacked a forward of his calibre since Kylian Mbappe left in the summer with Luis Enrique preferring to play Marco Asensio as a false nine rather than trust Randal Kolo Muani in the centre-forward’s role.

Les Parisiens have one of the worst conversion rates in the Champions League this term with a mere 2.5% of their efforts resulting in goals and their only win in the competition came thanks to a stoppage-time own goal from Girona goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga.

PSG have lost six of their last seven Champions League clashes with Bayern and failed to score in four of the last five, so a win to nil for Vincent Kompany’s side would follow the recent trend. 

Atalanta to cruise past struggling Young Boys

Over the border in Switzerland, Atalanta will look to maintain their unbeaten record in the competition against a Young Boys side yet to pick up a point in the league phase. 

Last season’s Europa League winners have been impressive both domestically and in Europe, winning their last six matches across all competitions and keeping clean sheets in six of their last 10 games.

Young Boys, on the other hand, have struggled mightily, losing all four of their Champions League matches while conceding 11 goals in the process. 

With Atalanta’s strong defensive record in Europe – they’ve kept clean sheets in all four games – they should comfortably secure another shutout victory.

Liverpool to turn the tables on Real Madrid

Anfield will be rocking on Wednesday as Arne Slot’s Liverpool aim to make it five wins from five in the Champions League when they face Euro rivals Real Madrid. 

The Reds have been in imperious form in Europe, scoring 10 goals without reply across their four games since AC Milan caught them cold with an early goal on Matchday One.

Their defensive record will face a stern test from holders Real Madrid, who have won their last three head-to-head clashes, including the 2022 Champions League Final in Paris.

But Mbappe has not made the impact that most people expected yet and Carlo Ancelotti could be without star man Vinicius Junior for this trip to Merseyside.

Liverpool look to be in the sort of mood to go for the jugular and make the Spaniards sweat for their place in the knockout phase by claiming victory in front of their home fans.

Monaco can maintain run against Benfica  

Finally, Monaco can take another three points when they host Benfica at Stade Louis II.

The Ligue 1 club have been trying to generate more of an atmosphere at the ground this season and fans are responding to some impressive displays from Adi Hutter’s young team.

Monaco have emerged from a sticky patch with three straight wins and they were far too classy for Barcelona on their own patch earlier this season.

Benfica can be a relentless attacking unit in their own right, but they may lack the legs in midfield to get the better of this youthful Monaco side.
