On Monday, Action Network’s Brett McMurphy released his picks for the 2024 College Football Playoff and select bowl games.
McMurphy believes that Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes will earn the auto-bid as the four-seed in the playoff as Big 12 Champions.
In McMurphy’s scenario, the Utes would play their opening matchup against 10-seed Virginia Tech. The team would then take down the Hokies and advance to a quarterfinal matchup against Ohio State, where the team’s playoff run would end.
In addition to the Utes making the CFP, McMurphy believes ten different Big 12 teams will reach bowl eligibility in 2024. The teams reaching the six-win threshold are Kansas, TCU, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Arizona, UCF, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, and Cincinnati.
The full list of bowl game projections is listed below.
Kansas vs. Oklahoma, Texas Bowl
TCU vs. Washington State, Independence Bowl
Kansas State vs. USC, Alamo Bowl
Oklahoma State vs. Clemson, Pop-Tarts Bowl
Arizona vs. Tennessee, Las Vegas Bowl
UCF vs. Kentucky, Liberty Bowl
Texas Tech vs. Boise State, Birmingham Bowl
West Virginia vs. Air Force, Armed Forces Bowl
Iowa State vs. Maryland, Guaranteed Rate Bowl
Cincinnati vs. Tulane, Gasparilla Bowl
If the teams above reach bowl eligibility, Colorado, BYU, Baylor, Houston, and Arizona State will be the five Big 12 teams to miss out on a bowl game in 2024.
