Throughout the bulk of the 2024 regular season, the Detroit Lions were one of the best teams in the NFL. They proved it by securing the top seed in the NFC Playoffs with a 15-2 record.
Yet, by the time the Lions reached the playoffs, they were forced to take the field without several key contributors due to injury, including their best defender, Aidan Hutchinson. Now healthy, the Lions’ Pro Bowl edge rusher is trying to recruit another elite sack artist to join him on the Lions.

Aidan Hutchinson and Myles Garrett have discussed teaming up on Detroit Lions

Not long after the Detroit Lions were eliminated from the playoffs in the Divisional Round, Myles Garrett requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Naturally, news of one of the NFL’s best players hitting the trade block shook the sports world.
Garrett is a four-time All-Pro who’s recorded 10 or more sacks in seven consecutive seasons, but he’s only made the playoffs twice in his eight-year career. It’s time for that to change, with Garrett now prioritizing the opportunity to join a contender.
Apparently, it didn’t take long for Hutchinson and Garrett to discuss what it would be like to pair up on the Lions. Hutchinson recently revealed bits about how his conversation with Garrett unfolded during an appearance on “The Lautners” podcast.
“We were just talking about what could be. And, although it’s probably unlikely, I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen. Our whole D-Line would be just totally elevated. That would be a scary defensive line. And we get along, too. I’ve seen him these last few years at different things. He texted me after I got hurt, which, I don’t know, it was just a cool thing. Like guys outside of your own team who reach out to you. So I think he’s a good dude. If he does, great, but I don’t know. We’ll see. But that would be awesome.”
Aidan Hutchinson on recruiting Myles Garrett to Detroit Lions
As exciting as the possibility of the Lions adding the six-time Pro Bowler to an already strong core, the Browns have expressed a strong reluctance to grant Garrett’s trade request.
However, if the Lions are able to make an offer that’s too good to refuse, the idea of Garrett forming a pass-rushing tandem with Hutchinson should have all NFL offensive coaches worried about their protection schemes in 2025.
