For the better part of three decades, Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.) has been home to a spring lacrosse playday which has morphed into a highly competitive girls’ lacrosse tournament.
The tournament has featured a number of superb sides over the last few years, including the English national team and elite teams which have featured players on the collegiate and the national levels.
This year should be no different, although there are only a couple of guest teams from outside the greater D.C./Baltimore area.
These two sides, Willamette Loyola Academy (Ill.) and Charlottesville St. Anne’s Belfield (Va.) will be playing in the opening match window, at 9:30 a.m. The Ramblers will take on Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.), then will turn around to play the host team at 1 o’clock.
Meanwhile. St. Anne’s-Belfield will play Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.) in the early window, then take on Bethesda Stone Ridge (Md.) at 1 p.m.
Mind you, there are other good sides coming to this day of lacrosse. Olney Good Counsel (Md.), our preseason No. 1, plays McLean Potomac (Md.) School at 11:15 a.m., then takes on Richmond (Va.) Collegiate at 2:45 p.m.
These 12 games are definitely worth your attention and support.
