This weekend, in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., there will be 20 girls’ lacrosse teams converging for 10 intersectional matches at the ninth Gains for Brains Lacrosse Showcase. And a number of teams from our Top 10 are going to be there. We’ll have a more comprehensive preview on Saturday, but I think that event is going to scramble next week’s Top 10 in more ways than you can imagine.
1. South Huntington St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) 6-0
Beat Darien (Conn.) 13-8 thanks to a five-goal eruption in the fourth quarter, but it gets no easier this week. Team took on Wilton (Conn.) yesterday and has an in-form Chatham (N.J.) side Saturday
2. Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (Pa.) 12-0
Churchwomen beat Rosemont Agnes Irwin (Pa.) 10-3 and laid down a marker for the rest of the InterAc Conference. They host on Bradenton IMG Academy (Fla.) on Friday
3. Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) 11-1
The Eagles got by a good Lutherville Maryvale Prep (Md.) team 11-10 last week, and have Bel Air John Carroll (Md.) and Annapolis St. Mary’s (Md.) this week
4. Darien (Conn.) 5-1
The Wave, after losing to St. Anthony’s, beat Manhasset (N.J.) 14-9 on the weekend; they have a tough week with Wilton (Conn.), Rye (N.Y.), and a Gains for Brains match with Sayville (N.Y.) on Saturday
5. Coronado (Calif.) 11-0
The Islanders have La Jolla (Calif.) today and Marin (Calif.) Catholic on Saturday
6. Rosemont Agnes Irwin (Md.) 9-2
The Owls, after a week’s break after the loss to Episcopal, get their shot at Bradenton IMG Academy (Fla.) on Wednesday
7. Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.) 14-1
The Saints, powering towards head coach Kathy Jenkins’ 900th coaching win, bested Richmond Collegiate (Va.) 9-7 last week; three home matches loom this week including Alexandria Episcopal (Va.) in the Seminary Hill Derby
8. Lewes Cape Henlopen (Del.) 8-0-1
The Vikings topped Dover (Del.) 19-0 and have a 10-day break before meeting Claymont Archmere Academy (Del.) this Saturday
9. Marriottsville Marriotts Ridge (Md.) 6-2-1
The Mustangs beat Latham Shaker (N.Y.) 23-7 last week and take on Finksburg Gerstell Academy (Md.) today
10. Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) 8-0
The Phantoms have had some statement wins in the last couple of weeks with wins over VIctor (N.Y.) and Westhampton (N.Y.) Beach
