Australian Open 2025 tips: Best bets for the men’s singles

Enda McElhinney’s three players to back in the first Grand Slam of the tennis tournament include a Spanish superstar and the British No. 1.

The ATP Tour is up and running for 2025 and on Sunday it is the start of the first Grand Slam of the season – the Australian Open.

Melbourne will play host to the hard-court major with Italian ace Jannik Sinner looking to defend his crown, while 10-time champion Novak Djokovic will be eager to prove he is still a force Down Under.

Best bets

Carlos Alcaraz to win Australian Open 3000/1000

Daniil Medvedev to win Australian Open 12000/1000

Jack Draper to win Australian Open 33000/1000

Spanish ace aiming to complete career Grand Slam

Given he won the event last season, it will come as little surprise to punters to see Jannik Sinner rated 5/4 favourite to win this year’s Australian Open.

The Italian took his game to another level in 2024, winning 23 of his 25 matches in Grand Slams and collecting eight titles across the ATP Tour.

On hard courts, he was largely unplayable, winning 53 of his 56 matchups, while he also won hard-court events in Miami, Cincinnati and Shanghai, as well as both Grand Slams on the harder surface.

But a potential ban still hangs over the Italian and he looks short enough in the betting, so it could be Carlos Alcaraz who offers better value.

The Spaniard has won each of the other three majors in the ATP calendar and would complete a career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open, so there will be no shortage of determination.

Alcaraz was US Open champion back in 2022 and enjoyed his best run at the Australian Open last year, making the quarter-finals.

He also picked up hard-court titles in Miami and Indian Wells and is worth a pick to go the distance at Melbourne Park.

Medvedev looks to bounce back from final heartbreak

It is easy to forget how dangerous Daniil Medvedev can be on hard courts given the emergence of Sinner but he could be worth keeping an eye on as well.

Often the bridesmaid and never the bride, Medvedev has reached the Australian Open final three times in the last four seasons, so he has form behind him in Melbourne.

His only previous Grand Slam triumph came on the harder surface at the 2021 US Open and there should be less pressure on him this season than in previous Australian Open campaigns, so he is worth backing at a nice price of 12/1.

Draper could forge a deep run in Melbourne

British talent Jack Draper could be a worthwhile outside pick for punters in the 2025 Australian Open.

Draper reached a career-high 15th in the ATP rankings towards the end of last season, having capped off a cracking breakthrough year by making the final four of the US Open.

He has already made the final of the Adelaide International this season, defeating the top seed Tommy Paul in the process, and could raise eyebrows Down Under in the season-opening Slam.
