Avs vs Stars History

In the 2023-24 regular season, the Avalanche had the upper hand against the Stars, winning three of their four meetings. Colorado outscored Dallas 20-15 over those four games, showcasing their offensive firepower. The Avalanche’s victories included a 6-3 win in Dallas on November 18, 2023, and a 5-1 triumph in Colorado on February 27, 2024.

However, the Stars refused to go down without a fight. In their lone win against the Avalanche on April 7, 2024, Dallas put on an impressive offensive display, securing a 7-4 victory in Colorado. This game highlighted the Stars’ ability to match the Avalanche’s high-scoring style of play.

The Stars and Avalanche last met in the playoffs during the 2020 postseason bubble. In a hard-fought second-round series, Dallas prevailed in seven games. The Stars’ elite defensive play and timely scoring were key factors in their success against the high-powered Avalanche offense.

Avs Dominate Jets

The Colorado Avalanche are surging into the second round of the 2024 NHL playoffs after an impressive showing against the Winnipeg Jets. The Avs eliminated the Jets in five games, bouncing back from a Game 1 loss to rattle off four straight victories

Colorado’s star players shined in the first round. The dynamic trio of Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mikko Rantanen each tallied nine points, with Rantanen scoring the crucial go-ahead goals in the series-clinching Game 5.

Artturi Lehkonen was a force, notching eight points including five goals. Valeri Nichushkin led the team with seven goals, proving to be a consistent offensive threat.

Between the pipes, Alexandar Georgiev was solid, starting all five games and posting a 4-1 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. After the Game 1 stumble, Georgiev settled in and gave his team a chance to win each night.

The Avalanche’s high-powered offense was on full display against Winnipeg, as they scored 20 goals over the final four games. Their puck movement and creativity were top-notch, and they consistently generated high-danger scoring chances.

However, there is still room for defensive improvement heading into Round 2, as they allowed three goals in each of the last three games against the Jets.

Avs vs Series Prediction

The Avalanche appear to have found another gear in the postseason following a mediocre regular season. However, they likely won’t find scoring as easy in this round as the previous round. The Stars are one of the league’s best defensive teams and boast excellent advanced metrics.

Avalanche vs Stars Head-to-Head Stats

4-1 Playoffs Record 4-3
37.5% (3rd) Power Play 28.6% (5th)
76.9% (7th) Penalty Kill 75% (9th)
44.4% (15th) Faceoff % 51.5% (4th)
5.60 (1st) Goals For/GP 2.29 (11th)
3.00 (11th) Goals Against/GP 2.29 (5th)

Goaltending is what ultimately cost the Avs in their last playoff series with Dallas, and it could play a vital role once again. As great as Georgiev has played lately, he was fairly inconsistent throughout the season and has limited postseason experience.

Oettinger, on the other hand, has played nearly double the number of playoff games as Georgiev and has a superior postseason save percentage (.918). Defense wins championships, and we think Dallas will be able to limit Colorado’s stars enough to advance to Round 3.
