Best bets for Real Madrid v Bayern

Our best bets for the second-leg of this Champions League semi-final tie at the Bernabeu include a win for the hosts with one of their star men finding the net.

The Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich is balanced on a knife edge after the 2-2 draw in Munich, and it all comes down to the result at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Los Blancos, who wrapped up the La Liga title at the weekend, are looking for a record-extending 15th Champions League trophy and are favourites to do so after eliminating Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

For Bayern Munich, who have won six Champions League trophies themselves, this is a case of trying to turn a dismal season into a fantastic one after they relinquished the Bundesliga title for the first time in over a decade, leaving them on the verge of their first trophyless season since 2011/12.

Los Blancos to make use of home advantage

Bayern Munich almost clinched a huge result at the Allianz Stadium as they turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the space of four minutes, but an 83rd-minute penalty from Vinicius Junior drew the two sides level, and that leaves Real Madrid in the driving seat going into the second leg.

Los Blancos are now unbeaten in 20 competitive matches, and they have not lost a home match since a defeat to Villarreal in April 2023. Meanwhile, 18 of their 22 home games this season have ended in victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

The Bavarians followed their draw in Munich with a 3-1 defeat at Stuttgart at the weekend, leaving them only two points ahead of them in second place in the Bundesliga and continuing a run of worrying away performances.

They have won just three of their last nine competitive away games and have lost five of those, so a victory for the hosts looks a likelihood.

Vinicius can make the difference

Vinicius was Real Madrid’s saviour last week, scoring both goals in Munich. The Brazilian can strike again at the Bernabeu after being limited to a 17-minute substitute appearance at the weekend.

Vini has scored 21 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, and five of those have come in his eight Champions League outings.

His brace at the Allianz Arena last week made it nine goals and three assists across his last eight starts for his club. Back him to haunt Die Bayern again on Wednesday.

Goalscoring purple patch to continue for hosts

Real Madrid put three past Cadiz at the weekend to secure the La Liga title, and that result continued a run of impressive scoring form in front of the Bernabeu faithful.

The hosts have scored 15 goals across their last five competitive home games, putting three past both Manchester City and Barcelona and only failing to score at least a hatful in one of these.

Meanwhile, many of Bayern Munich’s problems this season have been down to a poor defensive showing, especially on the road.

They shipped three at Stuttgart on Saturday, meaning they have now conceded 20 goals across their last nine competitive away games, conceding three goals in four of these trips.
