Binghamton Rumble Ponies to play as Bathtub Donkeys – SportsLogos.Net News

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets in the Eastern League, will make asses of themselves with an alternate identity in 2025. The team will play two games this season as the Bathtub Donkeys, commemorating a Blue Law on the books in the state of New York that makes it unlawful for a donkey to sleep in a bathtub.

The Bathtub Donkey identity centers on a decidedly wakeful donkey playing in a bathtub. The tub is outfitted with footers that are made of a baseball bat and ball, a baseball bat scrubber, and shower cap featuring tiny baseballs.

The Bathtub Donkeys wordmark highlights the one of the donkey’s most notable features, with ears coming out of the “d” and “s” in donkeys. The bathtub concept is accentuated by a shower cap placed on the end of “bathtub.”

A secondary mark features a towel monogrammed with a “B” logo from the Rumble Ponies primary identity hanging on a baseball bat towel rack.

The idea to base an identity on an obscure Blue Law was first implemented by another Eastern League team, the Hartford Yard Goats, who played as the Bouncing Pickles in commemoration of a law (which may or may not actually exist) stating that it is illegal to sell a pickle that does not bounce in Connecticut. The Bathtub Donkeys suite of logos was created by Brandiose, the San Diego–based firm responsible for the Rumble Ponies primary brand.
