On Friday, Jerrance Howard was officially hired as an assistant coach for Arizona State under head coach Bobby Hurley.
During the 2023-24 season, Howard was on the coaching staff at Southern Illinois after previous stints with the Kansas Jayhawks (2013-21) and Texas Longhorns (2021-23).
The Salukis finished the season with a 19-13 overall record, placing sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Along with that, Howard spent a season (2012) coaching under Larry Brown at SMU as a top assistant, so he brings experiences competing in several Division I conferences to Arizona State. ASU lost a top assistant this offseason, Jermaine Kimbrough who left for Grand Canyon.
Hurley secured a five-star commit from Jayden Quaintance, the No. 9 prospect in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-9 center originally committed to the Kentucky Wildcats, but after Former Head Coach John Calipari left for Arkansas, he reopened his commitment.
The Sun Devils struggled last season, finishing with a record of 14-18, which placed them ninth in the Pac-12. The 2024-25 season will be ASU’s first season competing in the Big 12 Conference.
The team’s biggest win came against No. 21 Washington State, where the Sun Devils defeated the Cougars 73-61 on Feb. 24.
